The Light Youth Club (LYC) is an Organization of Muslim youths based in Qatar launched on Nov 2018 dedicated to provide guidance and support to young Muslims in order to excel their knowledge and understanding in Islam.

We are committed to find innovative ways to make the youths more interested in learning Islam. It is our wish and desire that with innovative study programs, Insha’Allah we will be able to be a valuable aid in providing correct understanding of the Qur’anic revelations and the Prophetic teachings among the younger generations. We are affiliated to - "Velicham Qatar" which means "The Light" in Malayalam language has been very active among the Malayalam speaking community for the past 12 years and has been very successful in making more than 1400 individuals of the kerala community read cover to cover the entire Malayalam Tafsir of respected scholar Mohamed Amani Moulavi (4 large volumes) in 4 years duration. We hope with Allah's help we could recreate similar or a much better result by moving forward with the "The Light" study program in English, Insha’Allah.

About Velicham

LYC is affiliated to Velicham Qatar. 'Velicham' started in Qatar for the malayalam speaking community in May 2011 without any organizational bias and gained the approval of the people in a short period of time. Now, apart from Malayalam, the light is also issued for non-Muslim friends under the name of 'Margadeepam' meaninig 'The Beacon' ,and for children under the name of 'Balavelicham' meaning 'the light for children'. By the grace of Almighty, Velicham Qatar is still going strongly educating 1400+ individuals.

What we do

The Light Youth Club (LYC) is a dynamic and innovative youth organization formed in Nov 2018. Since 2018, LYC has been actively participating and contributing and assisting the Muslim youths in Qatar to better understand Islam.

The main objectives of LYC are:

  • To collectively contribute to the betterment of society with God-consciousness and a firm understanding of their Muslim identity
  • Preserve the identity of Muslim youth and help overcome the problems they face in modern society.
  • Educate and train them in order for them to become active and positive citizens in their countries.
  • Establish a relationship of dialogue, understanding & appreciation between Muslim youth organizations & other societies.

LYC started its activities with a Youth Summit addressing 300+ youth and seminars on success of youth in the present world withholding the Islamic virtues. Since inception, LYC has always concentrated on providing guidance to Muslim youth. At a time when young Muslims are being bombarded with negative media portrayals, and an increasing number are suffering Islamophobia and discrimination, there are lots of misinformation being spread and LYC understands and is committed to assist the Muslim youth and help them to withhold the virtues of Islam. LYC has been conducting a series of workshops called TADABBUR, (meaning deep learning), and addressed various subject on practicing Islam including Quran Recitation Guidelines, Virtues of Paradise, Care for the Deceased etc.

LYC also conducted various workshops to help the youth in day-to-day matters and to educate them the Islamic way. The workshops were conducted mainly on Islamic Finances, Parenting the Islamic Way, the art of answering Criticism etc. LYC also conducted various conferences bringing together many Muslim youths.

Ramadan is the most blessed month for Muslims and LYC too provides opportunity for the society to get in touch with Quran and Sunnah by conducting various competitions like Quran recitation, Quran Hifz, Quiz Competitions etc. and conducting Ramadan Booster, a physical and spiritual revival sessions.

also focuses on services to society, which will help the Muslim youth to understand the importance of togetherness of the community and importance of physical and mental health. LYC has conducted Iftar meets, Blood donation Camps, Weight loss challenge etc. which had overwhelming acceptance.

LYC also is starting a comprehensive Quran leaning program “The LIGHT”. This Quran learning program is based on Tafser Ibn Kathir, which will be divided into small modules and distributing it along with a question paper. The question paper is designed in such a way that the individual has to read the entire book to answer all the questions. At the end of each module, prizes are distributed to the winners. By doing this, we found a way to get people to read large Tafsirs by giving them motivation and encouragement consistently along with regular follow-up. Since most of the youths these days prefer to read materials in the English language, we at LYC would like to recreate the study program that our sister organization (Velicham) did - in the English language by using an English Tafsir. The Tafsir will be divided into booklet and given each month so that a person shall complete reading the entire Tafsir thoroughly in 5 years period time (60 modules).

LYC intents with the blessing of Allah (SWT) to always work hard on the grassroots level to foster a diverse environment inclusive of people of all backgrounds, doing outreach in communities, and ensuring our branding is one every Muslim youth can be proud to represent.
